Philosophy of the Sisters of Compassion

We place high value on:

each person being created by God, and believe each person is unique and loved.

each person having a basic right to life, respect and honour.

our Foundress Suzanne Aubert, her dependence on Divine Providence and her stand for the oppressed and powerless.

the earth as our primary resource.

a spirit of accountability to our Mission and our resources.

our works being a vital and integral part of the Catholic Church's healing and justice seeking Mission.all our Homes and Centres being called to help and support one another in achieving goals and standards established by the congregation.

We aim:

to be symbols of hope.

to embrace all people without discrimination.

to share our Mission and History to ensure the continuation of the spirit of Suzanne Aubert.

to acknowledge the strong influence of the Maori people in the shaping of our tradition.

to welcome opportunities of working in partnership with Tangata Whenua.

to be open and responsive to the needs of the time within our communities.

to question fearlessly, risk the unknown and challenge the institutions of power.

to use our gifts to empower those with few choices to live with dignity.

to respond to the needs of people in so far as our resources and capabilities allow.

to utilise our resources effectively.

to have our Homes and Services characterised by mutual respect, common goals, effective communication, collaboration and shared responsibility.

to evaluate regularly, in the spirit of accountability, our response to our Mission commitment.

to ensure our Co-workers share our Mission and are given the opportunity to foster their personal and professional development.
