The Inner City ProjectThe Inner City Project provides a coordinated health and social service for people with mental health issues. We focus on linking people into existing services and advocating for new initiatives. The project is based at Newtown Union Health Service and is governed by representatives of nine Wellington organisations.
The ICP has now been running for 2 years. A recent evaluation of the service by medical students provided good feedback and highlighted the need for such a service. A significant number of people have accessed the service with a combination of issues ranging from accommodation, mental health issues, financial issues, barriers to accessing services, alcohol & drug use and more. 42% of clients were homeless at the time of referral and many presented with multiple issues. Following strategies have proven to be successful in assisting this particular client group: Strong outreach approach Prompt and non-bureaucratic response Assertive follow-up if people got what they needed Establishing good relationships with other agencies through extensive networking and promoting of the project For more information please feel welcome to contact Simone Piatti or Dan Cook on contact numbers above or click on the below links: Background Information on the Inner City Project
