StaffStaff at the Suzanne Aubert Compassion Centre include a team of sisters and lay staff. ![]() Angela Emmett joined the Compassion Centre at the end of November as Assistant Manager. She'll be doing advocacy work, working with the Centre's guests and clients, and liaising with other agencies. We are delighted to have her on board. She brings great skills that will enhance the services we offer to those on the margins. Angela is originally from Wanganui, but has called Wellington home for many years. For the past few years, she has been with the Department of Internal Affairs. Much of her time there has been spent with the Citizenship Office, where she's worked closely with refugees, migrants and ethnic community groups. Angela hopes that her experiences and contact will prove useful in her new job. Angela has volunteered with groups working alongside refugees and youth in New Zealand and the UK, including as a Youth Justice Panel Member in London, working with first-time offenders in a restorative justice programme. She says, 'I think the team at the Compassion Centre do a fantastic job and I'm looking forward to working alongside them'.
Nikki Burrows joined the staff of the Compassion Centre in early November. Nikki is the Co-ordinator of Volunteers - a new and exciting role for the Centre. Nikki is hoping to make volunteers' time at the Centre as rewarding and enjoyable as possible, as well as exploring new ways that volunteers can contribute to the Centre's Mission. She is very interested in meeting all of the Centre's volunteers and hearing their experiences of working for the Centre. Nikki most recently worked in the Education Department at Mary Potter Hospice. She has worked as a volunteer in the community since her first year of university when she volunteered as a tour guide at the National Portrait Gallery. Until recently Nikki was Co-Chair of the Aro Valley Community council - a role which involved everything from cleaning up huge piles of Christmas tree pine needles at the end of the season's sales, to chairing large and very vocal public meetings. She is enjoying her first weeks of working with the staff and Sisters at the Centre, finding out how things are done and (most importantly) where things are kept. When she's not at work, Nikki enjoys spending time with her two children (six and eight), and making things - either out of metal or yarn.
