Taoist Tai Chi

Promoting physical, mental and spiritual well-being

When it is practised diligently, Taoist Tai Chi helps to restore and maintain good health by cultivating both the mind and the body.

For ten years now the Taoist Tai Chi Society has been running classes in Wellington which place particular emphasis on promoting physical, mental and spiritual well-being.  It does this through a combination of turning and stretching exercises.  Each of its movements helps to release tension, restore proper breathing, improve the circulation and energy while calming the heart and mind.

Tai Chi's ability to relax and rejuvenate rather than exhaust, makes it a valuable exercise.  It is designed to achieve complete co-ordination of the mind and body.

Tai ChiThrough concentration, students learn to relax their mind and body.  Nervous tension is lost.  The slow turning motions loosen the joints and spine.  As a result, all joints, muscles and connective tissues are relaxed and loosened, producing both suppleness and strength without sacrificing one for the other.

The foundation of Taoist Tai Chi is compassion.  Its underlying charitable orientation is in keeping with Taoist values of selflessness and service to others.  All of its instructors are volunteers and its branches operate on a not-for-profit basis.

The weekly Tai Chi classes are now being held at the Home of Compassion at Island Bay.
