In late 2002 a French Television crew was in New Zealand making a documentary on “New Zealand – French Links” for French National Television and the Catholic Channel.

Recently Sister Cecilia Scanlon received the Papal Honour Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, during Mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Wellington. The award was given in recognition for Sisters long years of service and dedication to Our Lady’s Home of Compassion Hospital, Rest Home and to Catholic Health Care.

The statistics are alarming. Four million Australians snore. One and a half million have insomnia. 400,000 have Sleep Apnea.

All the residents at the Loreto Home of Compassion will be accommodated in single rooms by October this year. The (Australian) $4 million redevelopment will change the Home from mainly four and six-bedrooms to single room accommodation.

Last month's announcement that Compassion Hospital was to close came as a shock to everyone. For nearly a hundred years it had been a integral part of Island Bay - a Wellington icon.
