Sister Cecilia receives Papal Honour
Recently Sister Cecilia Scanlon received the Papal Honour Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, during Mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Wellington. The award was given in recognition for Sisters long years of service and dedication to Our Lady’s Home of Compassion Hospital, Rest Home and to Catholic Health Care.

Sr Cecilia receives her award from
Cardinal Williams at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Sister Cecilia wrote. For me this honour was very special. I felt both humbled and proud at the same time. Humbled that I was chosen to accept this prestigious Papal Award. Proud to be accepting it on behalf of each Sister/Person who had ever worked in Compassion Hospital over a long period of time. 95 years. 41 of these years I had worked in our Hospital. It was a very fitting honour in the year 2002 when we closed our Hospital & Rest Home.

It was a very happy celebration when many Sisters of Compassion, family and friends were present at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. Following Mass everyone was invited to the Home of Compassion for finger food and a cup of tea.
