I feel that it's in living the life of a religious that I have truly got to know that I'm loved by God and that I'm loveable and loving. I believe there are many ways of life for people to experience the love of God, and for me religious life was the way.

On the 17th August, Sister Victor and I attended a rare books auction at Dunbar and Sloane with the express intention of buying a copy in very good condition, of the book “New and Complete Manual of Maori Conversation: and a complete vocabulary by Suzanne Aubert.” It was amazing experience bidding for a book written by Suzanne Aubert in 1885. We were hoping that not many people were interested …

Sister Joan Timpany died peacefully at home in Palm Beach on Monday night, aged 79.

Our Congregation was founded by a French woman, and so we have French roots, the significance of which over the years has faded to a certain extent.

As we prepared for the French pilgrimage I learnt that all that is required is that there is a willingness to journey together, to engage with the story of faith that is embedded in the process, and to let that story speak for itself.

Father Paul Kerridge initiated the preparation for the visit of the French Pilgrims some months prior to their arrival, and the enthusiasm with which the visitors were welcomed reflected the great work done by Father Paul and Father Peter Fahy and friends who formed the committee that did the planning.

Faith and Light is an International Christian Association of people with an intellectual/physical disability, their families and friends. It was founded in France in 1971, after a French couple Gerard and Camille Profitt and their two severely disabled sons Loic and Thadee, experienced a difficult and uncomfortable family pilgrimage to Lourdes in the 1960’s.

A group of 45 pilgrims from France and New Caledonia are coming to New Zealand in July to trace the footsteps of Suzanne Aubert and to pray at her grave at the Home of Compassion, at Island Bay in Wellington, in support of the Cause for Suzanne Aubert’s Beatification, which was formally made to Rome in May last year.

Planning is well-advanced with construction likely to start in April. All existing tenants – Wellington Peoples’ Centre, Parents Help and Prisoners Aid and Rehabilitation Service, together with new tenant, Downtown Community Ministry – have had detailed input into the refurbishment of the building, to ensure that the newly furbished building meets their ongoing needs and those of their clients.

On behalf of all of us at St. Joseph’s I thank you Archbishop John for joining with us in our Sunday Eucharist. It is particularly special in that it is our patronal feast day and also the jubilee celebration for Sr. Catherine.

It always takes place in November. St Joseph's Home of Compassion Gala and is always a great success. It is a very special event for a lot of people all over the Greater Hutt Basin and for St Joseph's Home of Compassion at Heretaunga.

We have well and truly passed our “target” of 1,000 new donors in 2005. We acquired 1,736 new donors as a result of our flyers in the Marist Messenger in June from which we acquired 312 new donors including 80 new Compassionate Friends and WelCom in July from which we acquired 280 new donors, including 30 new Compassionate Friends.
