News Archive 2008Volunteers - Milan, Paris, New York, Kilbirnie...
Several volunteers stepped out of their comfort zones and onto the catwalk recently, at a Ballentynes’ fashion show organised by Sister Rachel.
Never having been a very co-ordinated person, my main worry leading up to the show was that I would trip over in front of everyone. However, when I arrived at Ballentynes on the night of the show, I found a reality far worse than I had imagined. There was an actual catwalk, which meant navigating stairs up, navigating stairs down – and the potential for falling right off the edge and into the audience! ![]() I’m pleased to report, however, that my fears were not realised. I made it through all four outfit changes and trips down the catwalk without injuring myself or any innocent bystanders...and I had a really good time! My fellow volunteers were good sports, and helped make the evening a lot of fun. It was very comforting to find that we were all as nervous as each other! As always, the Soup Kitchen chefs did us proud with their delicious food, and Sisters Mary and Cabrini provided the audience with some wonderful ‘half-time’ entertainment. It was great to see so many people turn out in support of the Soup Kitchen and the fantastic work the Compassion Centre does. I’m sure the audience and the other volunteers would join me in saying a big thank you to Sister Rachel and all the people who helped her put the evening together. Rachel Purdom 23 February 2009
