Carterton CommunityThe family in the photograph below I have known since the mid 1970 ‘s. Father Wall took me to see their mother who was a great supporter of the Maori Mission. When I went on the Mission in Masterton in the 1990’s I looked them up and have had continual contact with them since. I have worked alongside of them through good times and bad. I have seen all the children except the two eldest born and growing up. The children are all well behaved and help one another. The eldest is going to Chanel College next year. The second is going to Hato Paora College. He has been working at the weekends, had a paper run and got a holiday job. He has saved up to $800 to help his pocket money etc. Three of the other children go to St. Pats Primary School. One child who is very interested in Maori is in local Immersion, the others in Kohanga Reo. Both the parents are good managers. Both grandparents died shortly after I came to work here. They love it when I am able to visit them as you see in this photo. The eldest boy is missing from the photo as he was out on his bike. - Sister Walburga
