Sr Cabrini - Martha and Mary

Since starting at the Soup Kitchen last year, I have been asking myself, “how can I help, what can I do?”  I have tried to identify the real need and have prayed for light to see, and the courage to put into action what God asks of me.  We have a great team at the Soup Kitchen, staff and volunteers, who share their talents and skills.  The team work allows us to share our particular gifts.  And so I find myself often drawn to the carpark and the waiting area or taking time to sit with guests at the table, providing a listening ear.  Because it seems to me that what many of our guests seek, is a chance to be heard, to share their stories.  We can give our guests clothes and provide the food, but many of them have a deeper, inner hunger.  The stories can be sad and troubling and sometimes full of anger.  Being present for our guests, is a really important part of our mission and I thank God that we have this opportunity.  And the guests honour us with their trust.
