Sr Rachel Moreno

The Second Hand Trader

Sr Rachel continues to work with refugee families in Wellington.  She and Father Rob are currently supporting a recently arrived refugee family to settle in Wellington, helping them to set up house, organise schooling for the children, negotiate the public transport system as well as work their way through all the necessary administrative matters.

Sr Rachel MorenoSr Rachel is also preparing for the arrival of the family from Sudan.  This is why one of the offices upstairs in the Compassion Centre is now looking like a second hand shop with all the furniture and household goods she is accumulating.  We’re not sure yet where she is planning to store the lounge suite promised to her and we only hope that the family’s arrival is not delayed any further!  Thank heavens for the St Vincent de Paul Society who are able to receive donated goods and provide them for us when needed.

As well as her work with refugees, Sr Rachel organises the monthly Gathering for the elderly held in the dining room.  This year has seen numbers high with guests enjoying some wonderful entertainment from talented individuals and groups such as the de Lautour Singers and soprano Natalie Moreno (Sr Rachel’s niece).
