Wairoa

The Sisters came to Wairoa, in the Hawkes Bay region, in February 1997, and were invited to walk with the people of that area.  In May 1998 a Drop In Centre was established within the Parish Hall of St Peter's Church, enabling the Sisters and their volunteers to reach out to people.

One of the ways the Drop In Centre is funded is by running a weekly flea market each Saturday morning.  From this the Sisters and volunteers can fund events and help the people of Wairoa in many ways.

The Sisters of Compassion are committed to prayer, and from this centre help with Communion Services, visiting the Marae and joining in their weekly meal, visiting the sick in their homes and at the hospital, administering natural healing (Reiki), and giving food vouchers.

The Sisters also work with the different organisations in the Parish and Community some of which are, Catholic Women's League, Age Concern, St Vincent De Paul Society, Maori Pastoral Care and Citizen's Advice.

Mission Statement
