Poem by Sr Walburga

Now my friends, we’re here to tell you
What in Carterton we do;
This is our daily programme
Though we’re only very few.

We’re taking food and clothes and comfort
To the lonely and the poor,
Helping those who’ve lost their loved ones
Also those who work no more.

 Blessings, Sacraments and Eucharist
Come within our working day.
Multicultural are our clients,
We help all to laugh and pray.

 In the field of education
Be it home, away or school:
Reading, Speech and Budgeting,
Music, singing as a rule.

 Hospitals and Rest Homes
Come within our loving care.
Where there’s need or misery
You will always find us there.

Those who have their many worries
Come to us for counselling.
When the priest is sick or absent
We help to cope with anything.

And of course the Maori Mission
Always takes up lots of time.
And we took a stand for justice
On the Hikoi March, though past our prime.

In our home we get together
Where mass is being said
Here we share our love and laughter
And receive our Daily Bread.

Come and see us and you’ll know
How so joyfully we live
For we’ve learnt, though nice receiving
Life’s so much fuller if we give
