Compassion and Contemplation

Sisters of Compassion are called to a life of contemplation and Action

The Sisters must live in intimate union with God by the practice of meditation
“ Let us combine most perfectly, never separating them,
the life of Mary and the life of Martha, - contemplation and action.”

- Suzanne Aubert -

Suzanne Aubert received her education at a Benedictine Abbey in France.  She had a great devotion to St Therese of Avila. In her youth she learned Spanish in order to read the original works of St Therese.  She encouraged her Sisters to be ever mindful of the presence of God at all times.

Meditation can add a dimension of incredible richness to your life.  It helps to give depth and perspective to everything you do. It helps us to live out of the power of the Love of God. Meditation helps us to be fully conscious to the present moment and to the needs of others around us.  It is a way to self knowledge and self acceptance.  It is the prayer of Christ continuing in our hearts day and night.

In recent years we have been introduced to a simple method of Meditation that is within the reach of every person. This simple method of praying the mantra was rediscovered in the Western Christian Tradition of the Early Fathers and Mothers of the Church, by John Main a Benedictine, who in earlier years had learned this method in Malaysia while working in the British Foreign Service, before joining the Benedictines. Once John discovered this method in the Western Tradition dating back to the 4th Century, he began to teach meditation in Montreal and later founded The World Community for Christian Meditation (http://www.wccm.org) now in London. Today branches are spreading throughout the world with thousands of people meditating each day.

The Meditation group now meets at the Community Centre, Island Bay, Wellington, Monday evenings at 7.30 to 8.30pm and at the Suzanne Aubert Compassion Centre, 132 Tory Street, Wellington every Thursday morning at 9.15 to 10.15am.

All are welcome to join us.
