Vocation Video

Sisters Lusiana and Evalesi - A Calling from God

The Sisters of Compassion have recently produced a Vocations inquiry video/CD to distribute to women who contact them regarding joining the order. The video looks at the work of the Order through the eyes of a number of Sisters. They talk openly about their calling from God and the wonderful sense of satisfaction each one gets from their work.

Sister Lusiana Puleosi is among those who feature on the video. When asked what she enjoys most about being a Sister of Compassion she said:

"I bring the spirit of compassion to my work as a nurse.  When I give communion to the elderly who can no longer go to Mass, I feel I'm bringing Jesus to them. It is a wonderful opportunity”.

"I wanted to nurse the elderly ... to love and serve the frail who totally depend on other people's helping hands.  That’s what got me interested in becoming a Sister of Compassion".

Sister Lusiana works from Auckland.

Sister Malia Evalesi Tonga also features on the video. She teaches at a primary school, in addition to supervising a Tongan homework group.

"What I like about being a Sister of Compassion is the time you give to God and the community life, and the kind of work the Sisters do,” she said.

"We all come from different backgrounds, we didn't know each other, but we share everything as a community - we pray together, eat together, do recreation together".

"I felt I was going to make a good nurse but the congregation asked me to look at other possibilities so I decided to take up teaching because I love to work with little children, they are special to me".

"As a Sister I bring my prayer life and my faith to the children I teach.  I want to share the gifts and the talents God has given me with the children, the teachers and the principal I work with."
