For more than a century the sisters have taught, nursed, and provided care and homes for children, the sick and the elderly in Aotearoa and the South Pacific.
We follow in the Spirit of our Founder Suzanne Aubert. Like her, we are committed to supporting those of “all creeds and none”.
The sisters are committed to delivering compassionate care throughout the community by providing meals, food, and basic needs to those who have little, caring for the elderly, and providing individual and family support. We seek to bring dignity to the lives of the aged, the powerless and the poor.
Sisters, staff and volunteers provide compassionate care in three main centres in Aotearoa New Zealand:
Island Bay: Our Lady’s Home of Compassion is our congregation’s main office as well as being a conference and retreat centre. It is also home to the Suzanne Aubert Heritage Centre.
Wellington City, the Compassion Soup Kitchen at 132 Tory street.
In Upper Hutt and Levin, Compassion Housing provides houses for elderly people at a reduced rate.

The Sisters of Compassion are proud to share their first Compassion Impact Report, which highlights how the mission of Meri Hōhepa Suzanne Aubert continues to shape lives across Aotearoa. This report brings together “the stories, data and experiences that show how the mission of Compassion move from intention to impact” and celebrates the people whose courage and generosity make this work possible.
This year’s report reflects a community living out practical compassion every day — from serving 85,333 meals at the Compassion Soup Kitchen to providing safe, affordable homes for older people, and welcoming thousands to Our Lady’s Home of Compassion for retreats, learning, and spiritual nourishment. It also honours the enduring legacy of Meri Hōhepa Suzanne Aubert, whose vision “continues to guide and inspire us” more than a century after her passing.
