This replica of the famous Lourdes Grotto remains a place of reflection and prayer.

On the grounds of Our Lady’s Home of Compassion is a miniature replica of France's famous Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. It was built by Bill Kraus, a tireless supporter of the sisters, who, while overseas, had visited the Grotto. Soon after his return, he started planning what was to become one of his major projects at the Home: the construction of a Grotto, a ‘mini’ replica of the one at Lourdes. On 15 September 1973, Bishop Sneddon officiated at the unveiling and blessing of the Grotto. It was a great occasion, with a large crowd attending.

Redevelopment 2026

Visitors to Our Lady's Home of Compassion, please note the grotto shelter has been removed as part of some upcoming redevelopment work.

When this work is finished, visitors will again be able to access the grotto as normal.

We will keep you updated on progress and timings.
